Los Angeles premiere
On April 24 the film’s Los Angeles premiere at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood served as the closing night event of the This is Not A Fiction Film Festival, presented by American Cinematheque. Following the film, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra delivered moving remarks before introducing a Q&A with co-directors Doug Blush and Piero Giunti alongside all five members of Los Lobos. The evening concluded with an impromptu live performance by the band that had patrons dancing in the aisles.
Denver, co
Su Teatro presented the film on Sunday, April 12 as part of the 28th annual Xicano Independent Filmmakers Festival. Following the screening, co-directors Doug Blush and Piero Giunti took part in a lively Q&A with the festival audience, discussing the creative process behind the documentary and its cultural significance. The film received the Premio Ihtoa Award for Outstanding Documentary, recognizing its powerful storytelling and celebration of Chicano music and culture.
Boulder, co
On Saturday, April 11, the film screened at the Boulder International Film Festival, where it was honored with the festival’s Best Music Film Award. Co-directors Doug Blush and Piero Giunti accepted the award on behalf of the film and took part in an engaging post-screening Q&A, sharing insights into the filmmaking process and the enduring cultural impact of the story at the heart of the documentary.
SXSW Premiere
The world premiere of LOS LOBOS NATIVE SONS was on Sunday, March 15, at the historic Paramount Theater as part of the SXSW Film Festival. The film’s production team and members of Los Lobos were joined at the screening by an array of celebrated musicians, including John Doe and members of Los Lonely Boys. U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro introduced the post-screening Q&A, moderated by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who later joined the band for a raucous live performance of some of their most iconic songs.
